# video | The Pentagon demonstrated a laser acoustic gun to disperse rallies

Engineers from the Laboratory of Non-Lethal Weapons of the Pentagon demonstrated the work of an innovative acoustic laser gun, the main task of which is the transmission of a deafening loud sound over huge distances up to tens of kilometers. In the future, scientists plan to transmit a synthesized human voice using this device. In the meantime, during the demonstration, they demonstrate to us the basic principle of the gun, based on laser radiation.

The gun uses two types of lasers. A femtosecond laser creates a plasma ball at the point of aiming, along which, in turn, a beam of a narrow range beats a nanoscale. The plasma sphere responds to this effect with a deafening sound and bright flashes of light. During several field trials, researchers were able to generate a plasma bundle thirty kilometers away from the installation.

In addition to deafening noise, the installation will very soon learn to transmit a human voice with a loudness of up to 150 decibels. The US military plans to use such non-lethal weapons both during military operations and to disperse unauthorized rallies and protests. We suggest you familiarize yourself with the video demonstrating the installation in action. We warn that the video sequence is accompanied by a loud sound, so make the volume of your speakers or headphones a little quieter in advance.
