It seems that the idea of creating unmanned flying taxis suited the authorities of Dubai. After all, they seriously decided to make it the first city in the world in which such a transport service will function. And so far there is no point in doubting that the idea will really be implemented. The project is developing so quickly that the first test flights of flying taxis have already begun.
On Monday, the first flight of a taxi took place within the framework of creating a full-fledged service, which residents and visitors of Dubai can use. The aircraft was developed by the German company Volocopter, specializing in drones. The taxi is a two-seater cabin that rises in the air with the help of 18 propellers. The taxi was created taking into account all safety standards and includes a lot of systems that provide for any non-emergency situations. Just in case, it has a backup battery, and if the worst happens, a couple of parachutes for passengers.
The first test flight, of course, was carried out remotely, without people in the cab of the vehicle. The launch was watched with interest by Crown Prince of Dubai Hamdan ibn Mohammed Al Maktoum. For the most part, the test launch was organized just for him. He is confident that such a transport of the future will make the city of Dubai even more technologically advanced and comfortable. During the test flight, a taxi took off to a height of 200 meters above the city and flew over it for five minutes. In addition to flying taxis, in Dubai in the coming years plan to create a metro with unmanned trains, and also start using robotic police.
