5 predictions IBM about what the future awaits us in 2022

The technological giant IBM has been making rather loud forecasts concerning "our" technological future for several years already. And it should be noted that the percentage of correct predictions is surprisingly always higher than the percentage of infidels. And this time the company presented a list of five innovative technologies, methods and discoveries that, in her opinion, will have the most serious impact on our lives for the next five years.

According to these predictions, in the course of just a few years we expect a serious growth in the development of artificial intelligence (AI), super-power telescopes, smart sensors and medical devices. At the same time, the benefits of these innovations will be noticeable in so many areas, from the healthcare and environmental protection system to the areas in which we understand the issues of our understanding of the Earth and the entire surrounding universe as a whole.

Of course, we should immediately clarify that the predictions presented below are based only on those technologies and innovations that we have already come to. Therefore, it should be understood that other discoveries may occur for the time interval taken in these predictions. Nevertheless, we suggest looking at what can be expected in the near future. Stock up with notebooks to return to this record in 2022 and just to make sure whether the predictions described below are true or not.

Thanks to AI, we will be able to diagnose a person's psychological health

Already now you can tell a lot about a person just by watching how he talks. The voice clearly feels fatigue, excitement, confusion, inattention or sadness.

People in the course of their evolution have learned to understand the signs that indicate these features of the state, however, the current boom in the development of computer calculations can, among other things, lead to the fact that the technologies used in the analysis of speech can become even more perfect and, so to speak , more insightful than we are.

"The way we speak and write, will be used as indicators of our psychological state and physical health," IBM predicts.

How would this happen? For example, psychological disorders and diseases, such as Parkinson's disease, can be determined using a normal mobile application for your smartphone that will be synchronized with the AI system in the cloud. Due to earlier detection of disease symptoms, we will have more time to develop the means for their treatment.

At first glance, the connection between the characteristics of speech and the symptoms of diseases may seem too tense, however, experimental systems that can perform this function are beginning to appear now. For example, last year a team of scientists from the University of Southern California created a program that is able to determine the variability of normal speech and compare it to signs of a depressed state.

Thanks to new technologies and AI, people can get super vision

Our eyes are an excellent example of the amazing possibilities of nature and biology, however, according to IBM, thanks to powerful, but tiny cameras working in tandem with ultrafast systems based on AI algorithms, people in 2022 will have the opportunity to literally see more than is usually available to the human eye.

Along with the visible light, people will begin to see microwaves, millimeter wave waves and even images obtained in the infrared spectrum range. And all thanks to a fairly compact device, able to fit in the pockets of ordinary clothes. In fact, we will get personal introscopes (devices used to luggage clearance in the same airports), but the size of your phone.

Using such devices, we can accurately determine, for example, whether this or that food is safe for us; self-controlled cars equipped with such systems will become much more effective "looking through" fog or heavy rain. And this is only the smallest part of the examples.

And surprisingly, some of the first such devices are already appearing. Take, for example, EnChroma glasses, coloring not only the correct colors, but in general the colors surrounding the world for people suffering from color blindness and achromatopsia. For the latter, the world is literally represented in black and white. Now such technologies are very expensive and experimental, but in 2022 absolutely anyone can afford them.

"Macroscopes" will help us understand the complexity of the Earth in unprecedented detail

Satellite technologies, thanks to which we are able to look into the hole of the door lock, now few people will be surprised. However, services such as Google Earth are just the beginning.

IBM predicts that "macroscopic systems" - working on the principle of microscopes, only in the opposite direction - will combine together "all complex data on the Earth" and give us the opportunity to look at all this information from completely different points of view.

This technology will not only expand the possibilities of gathering information with the help of satellites, but also provide us with more "smart" sensors, weather stations, and will also allow us to select much more optimal and structured ways of processing information.

This technology will benefit not only in the study of natural processes occurring on Earth and beyond, but also in our everyday life. Absolutely all kinds of devices, including our lighting systems and even refrigerators, can be studied with the help of macroscopic systems of the future, so that ultimately we could combine and apply this knowledge in predictions and predictions of everything from climate change to finding solutions to distribution issues eating on the planet.

From remotely controlled lamps to clever devices that can record the list of necessary purchases you read, order food for you yourself, go to Wikipedia and search for the information you need ... In general, in a world where more devices, houses and even cities becomes a part of the general smart infrastructure connected to the Network - just imagine what potential will open the possession of technology that will be able to literally collect all the information about this world and direct it to solve specific problems.

"Labs on the chip" will lead to a revolution in medicine

With the development and increase in the productivity of computer technology, medicine is one of those areas that will benefit most from this progress, according to IBM. Just imagine that you can inexpensively and independently put accurate medical diagnoses at home or predict the approach of the disease much earlier than now.

"New" labs on the chip "(they are microsystems of complete analysis) will play the role of nanotechnology detectors detecting the traces of future diseases in our organisms and fluids and letting us know immediately that it's time to visit your doctor," IBM.

In other words, full-fledged biochemical labs of the future can fit on the palms of your hands.

The early detection of diseases such as cancer or Parkinson's disease can make a big difference in the success of treatment. That is why scientists are working on how to improve and at the same time simplify the methods for analyzing the products of our excretory systems: our tears, blood, urine and sweat.

By 2022, our sleep monitoring systems and fitness bracelets will be able to send data to cloud-based AI servers, where it will be efficiently and quickly processed. Then the same information will be returned to us back in the form of detailed advice on how to improve our health and well-being. And all this will be accompanied by simultaneous automatic notification of your attending physician for any signs of an approaching illness.

"Smart" sensors will detect pollution much faster

The combination of intelligent equipment and AI-analysis systems will also be able to provide more accurate and timely predictions in matters of environmental pollution, IBM believes. Like smart trackers that can one day point to early signs of disease, smart sensors, placed, for example, in the ground or installed on flying drones, will be able to detect emissions and pollution in real time without the need for prior analysis of samples and data in laboratories.

One example of such pollution is the increase in the level of methane in the atmosphere - invisible to the naked eye, but it is considered the second largest cause of global warming, after carbon dioxide. Smart sensors installed along gas pipelines, near storage facilities and natural sources of these emissions, will be able to detect and report almost instantaneously the increase in the concentration of this dangerous gas in the atmosphere.

"Such leaks can be determined within a few minutes, not weeks, as it is now. This will not only reduce leakage, but also avoid potential catastrophic consequences, "IBM explains.

As has been said many times, the prediction of the future is not always a noble cause, nor is it a very simple task. However, all the technologies described today are already in one way or another in the development of research and scientific teams around the world. In other words, when we get these technologies, it remains only a matter of time.
