Star Trek is 50 years old

Half a century ago, viewers first saw the pilot series of the magnificent science fiction saga Star Trek, created by genius producer Gene Rodenberry, who was able to change the view of viewers about science fiction. The idea distinguished the universe from other popular TV shows of that time with serious episodes, advanced ideas and an interesting embodiment of them on the screen. Humanity, finally, went into outer space and engaged in its exploration and colonization. Peaceful earthlings are devoid of prejudice, peacefully coexist not only with each other on different planets of the Space Federation, but also gladly accept into their amicable family new races of intelligent aliens, simultaneously exploring the universe.

Dynamic forty-minute episodes each time gave the viewer a new story, but the main storyline was the same: the brave crew of the research spacecraft, discovering new civilizations, travels to different worlds, constantly coming into contact with the unexplored.

While the action of the series is unfolding in the future, and the non-uniform crew of the ship consists not only of representatives of different cultures and nationalities from the Earth, but also from other planets, nothing human is alien: even in outer space and on distant undeveloped planets, they come across quite understandable to the viewer problems that are relevant not only in the 1960s and 1970s in the United States, but also in our present reality.

The Star Trek universe is replete with fantastic technologies, many of which have migrated to real life and have long become our usual everyday attributes: clamshell phones, universal translators, touch panels, smartphones and tablets, augmented, virtual reality and much more.

Separate complexity for the creators of the series was represented by special effects - 50 years ago there was no computer graphics, so you had to get out: for the creation of fantastic instruments, sometimes the most common objects were used. For example, the onboard doctor's medical scanner was made from a conventional salt cellar, and the electronic stuffing of the ship was written-off printed circuit boards and cardboard dummies with light bulbs on batteries. It is clear that to impress such a picture was quite difficult, so in the series the emphasis was traditionally made on the subjects, which was always the strong side of the series.
