The mysterious company challenged Tesla

No one knows who owns this mysterious company, but it invests a billion dollars in building an electric vehicle plant and gaining the best minds in the automotive industry. The company is called Faraday Future, it was created last year in California. The company received its name in honor of the English scientist Michael Faraday, the founder of the doctrine of the electromagnetic field.

At the moment, Faraday Future employs more than 400 employees, but by the end of the year the company's staff will exceed five hundred thousand people. Among the people working in Faraday are the former Tesla Model S chassis engineer, the leading designer of the BMW i8, the former interior designer Ferrari and the battery specialist from SpaceX Elona Mask. In addition to them, the company has a lot of former employees of Ford, General Motors, Volvo, Facebook and Google.

Nick Sampson, former Tesla CTO, has been appointed Faraday Future Senior Vice President and appears to be the official spokesperson for the company. He told reporters that in 2017 his company is going to put on the market a new electric car that will challenge Tesla Model S. To this end, the company will invest one billion dollars in the construction of a plant in California, Nevada, Georgia or Louisiana - with the exact location in Faraday for now have not decided.

Despite the fact that the company employs almost 500 people, no one knows almost anything about the car they are developing, except for the fact that it will be completely electric. Neither the range of travel on one charge, nor the maximum speed of the car is known, but the company has already reported that its electric car battery will have a 15% higher capacity than the Tesla Model S battery. Thus, it can be calculated that a Faraday car can pass at a time about 500 kilometers.

As for the design, on site of the company there is a teaser, which casts some thoughts on the external similarity with the BMW X6.

The company is not going to stop on the production of electric vehicles, but also plans to "explore other aspects of the automotive industry, including unique models of car ownership and use, additional content and autonomous driving."

These are very ambitious goals for a company that does not have a product, a team of 400-500 people and an unnamed public executive director. Nevertheless, Faraday claims that they have already begun to purchase materials and parts for their future products. And if the fact that the company refused to name the name of its CEO, only intrigued people, then the information that Faraday Future is investing a billion dollars in the construction of the plant, generated a lot of rumors.

When reporters from the Wall Street Journal asked Sampson where that amount of money from his unknown company came from, he simply replied: "The names of our partners are confidential information."

One of the rumors claims that Faraday can be Apple, which wants to hide its plans to create an electric vehicle to the last. A large number of former Tesla employees working now at Faraday are associated with the recent words of Elon Musk that Apple is poaching talent from Tesla.

Regardless of how true the rumor about Apple is, it seems Tesla will soon have the first truly serious competitor.
