Lost works of Andy Warhol were found on old floppy disks

Employees of the Museum of Andy Warhol managed to get a rare set of works by the artist, which for more than twenty years were stored on floppy disks. Warhol painted these works with the help of a personal computer Commodore Amiga 1000.

The images were discovered by artist Cory Arkangel after he accidentally stumbled upon an old YouTube video in which the King of Pop Art, using the Amiga 1000 computer, digitally processes the photos of the Blondie soloist Debbie Harry in front of numerous viewers.

After what he saw, Corey became interested in: where are the source files of the artist's works? He began to search alone, and later he was joined by his familiar artists and even the staff of Carnegie University, who also set about trying to find valuable files.

During the investigation, they went to the Andy Warhol Museum, in the archives of which more than 40 diskettes with lost paintings were discovered. The joy of the museum staff simply had no limits! After all, this treasure was lying right under their noses, but no one had a chance to check what was written on these dusty diskettes.

In the near future, Andy Warhol’s digital works will be presented to the public at the Trapped: Andy Warhol's Amiga Experiments exhibition, which will be held on May 10th. And on May 12, a documentary about the investigation, which was organized by Cory Arkangel, should appear on the Web in order to find the lost works of the artist.
